Mālama Your Inner Artist - Creating “You” in an Art Quilt
A Raw Edge Applique Quilted Wall Hanging
Friday, January 7, 2022 9am - 4pm
Saturday, January 8, 2022 9am - 4pm
Keawalaʻi Congregational Church, Mākena, Maui
Participants will be making a raw edge applique wallhanging - a piece of art of Hawaiʻi nei - and sharing the experience of an art approach to quilts. An art approach refers to trying different design options to make your work the most pleasing and a reflection of you that applies to traditional and art quilts. “The things that make me different are the things that make me, me.” said Piglet. Encourage yourself to try something new! The opportunity to collaborate and share ideas in person while being on the beautiful church grounds is also very special in these times.
We explore creativity, trusting yourself for decisions, artistic and practical skills to make your piece an expression of your unique talents, how to create an original art quilt pattern and art concepts including design, composition, value, relative color, emphasis, space, line, variety, balance, evaluation methods, eye training and more to improve our design work. Raw edge applique, quilting ideas and some free motion practice are also included.
Our workshop goals:
Ways to connect with inspiration & your inner creativity
Applying art techniques for memorable art and traditional quilts
Design church quilt top
How to create an original art quilt pattern

Skills and free motion ideas to complete your quilt
