Walker Saddlebag Carriers
The Walker Saddle Bag with Pockets attaches to a walker frame where users can keep personal items easily accessible and secure. The Bag secures to the center bar of a walker to carry personal items while using a walker. The bag is 15 inches wide and 10-1/2 inches high and attaches with ties to the frame.
On Friday, May 14th, President Anne Marie Studer and Vice-President, Dian Gruber went to the Adult Day Care Center at Hale Mahaolu to handover the walker saddlebags our members so diligently and lovingly made. The joy and delight of our Kapuna was overwhelming. They were so happy and grateful for these handy walker saddlebags. We put them on a few walkers and they fit perfectly. The feedback was just terrific. The walker saddlebags are very useful and were much welcomed. Thank you all who made and donated these bags. We would like to especially thank Dian Gruber for spearheading this project.
Yellow Ribbon Quilts for Foster Kids
Yellow Ribbon Project is for the children of Maui who are taken from their families for the safety of that child's welfare, may it be abuse, neglect or drugs, etc. We are in contact with the Child Welfare Services and the child is given a quilt with their name and age put on our label. Our hopes are that this quilt stays with them through all the rough times in their little lives. In my mind I can picture a child that has been put into a home with all strangers and the only real stable thing right now is our quilt. The specifications for the quilt is no larger than 50 x 60 and not tied together but stitched in some manner.
Members of the Maui Quilt Guild make a patriotic colored ( red, white and blue) quilt which is given to Veterans who live on Maui.. The President of the Maui Veterans Council provides the name of deserving Veterans or a member can submit a name. The quilts are presented at the Veterans luau held by VFW Post 3850 in November or at a private ceremony depending on the Veteran's health. The recommended size is 60″ x 80″; minimum 55″ x 65″ and maximum 72″ x 90.
If you would like to make a Quilt of Valor visit the Quilts of Valor basic requirements website for more information.
Comfort Quilts are made by members of the Maui Quilt Guild to comfort another member who is experiencing a very difficult time; surgery, hospitalization, loss of spouse, etc. This shows them they are not alone and we all care about them. The quilt acts as hugs and well wishes from all of us at the Maui Quilt Guild. Quilt specifications are lap size 50 x 60, finished as desired.
